It doesn’t take many guesses to work out the hottest genre in gaming right now. Battle Royale is the latest big trend around, so much so that it’s starting to attract its fair share of parodies. The latest is Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, a slapstick competitive shooter that not only apes some aspects of PUBG surprisingly well, but manages to be pretty funny at the same time. Unfortunately, it’s pretty buggy and more than a little confusing, so we’ve put together a quick How to Play guide for Totally Accurate Battlegrounds to help you find a game.
How to play Totally Accurate Battlegrounds:
When you first load up Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, you’ll get a little intro before landing on a screen where you can customise your character by randomising their clothes. Once you’re set to start playing a match, click ready on the bottom left of the screen.
This might seem simple, but since it’s a brand-new game the servers aren’t quite up to scratch yet. Often, you’ll just see a static white dot appear next to ready if you click it. You’ll be sat there all day waiting if that happens, so here’s a couple of things you can try.
In the top left of the screen, you’ll see “US” in white letters. This is the server that you’re trying to connect to. Click “US” and you’ll get a drop down of other servers that you can select. Choose one, and see if you can get a game that way.
Otherwise, it’s time to try something more drastic. Close the game, then right-click on Totally Accurate Battlegrounds in your Steam Library. Click “Properties”, then go to the third tab “Local Files”. Now click “Verify Integrity of Game Files” and wait for it to complete.
Once you’ve done that, reopen the game and when you click ready the little white dot should move from side to side.
Totally Accurate Battlegrounds controls:
Apart from “Press F to get out”, there aren’t many button prompts to teach you the game in Totally Accurate Battlegrounds. You can access the controls in-game by pressing escape and then “Options”, but you can’t really do that while you’re playing or you’ll get shot.
Just because we’re nice, here are some screenshots of the default control scheme - just in case you’re using this as a second screen resource.:
That should be everything you need to enjoy some ragdoll royale fun. If you're a fan and want to play with friends, now's the time to tell them - Totally Accurate Battlegrounds is only free for 100 hours after it launched.
